Vote Early

Two ways to vote early:

by showing up in person during the prescribed early voting period; or
by voting by mail.

Vote early in person.

In-person early voting for most elections begins 17 days before Election Day (with the exception of the May election, at which early voting begins 12 days before). Early voting ends four days before Election Day.

Early voting locations for in-person voting:

Hays County uses early voting locations that are centers for most elections which means that you can go vote at any polling locations. These locations will be listed on the Hays County Election site and will also be shown here on the LWV of Hays County's site. (Election Day voting locations will be shown as well, which include additional sites. Voters may vote at any of the Vote Centers.)

Why Vote Early in Person?

If you are eligible to do so, voting early:

• Allows you to find and cure any issues with your voter registration before time runs out;
• Allows you to avoid last minute roadblocks to voting.

Vote early by mail.

Eligibility:

You are 65 years of age or older on Election Day; or
You will be away from your county on Election Day and during early voting;
You are sick or disabled;
You are confined in jail (or another facility), but eligible to vote.
You are pregnant and delivery is expected within 3 weeks before or after Election Day.

You can get a formal application for a ballot by mail from:

   •   The Secretary of State’s office
   •   The Early Voting Clerk or Elections Administrator in your county

Address your application to the Early Voting Clerk. Applications mailed to an address other than the Early Voting Clerk may be rejected.

Voting by Mail Because of Disability or Age (65 or older)

    •   You may use a single application to request ballots by mail for all county elections in the calendar year. To do so, simply mark “Annual Application”     on your application for a ballot by mail when selecting the election for which you are applying.

   •   You may request a ballot by mail for a single election only.

   •   If you wish to vote in a primary election by ballot by mail, you must designate the primary (Republican or Democratic) in which you wish to vote.

If you need help filling out the form or mailing it, ask someone you trust to help you. Your helper’s name and address must be written next to your signature and they must sign the application.
